81 days to go – Torch pin winner!!
Yes, you’ve all been waiting for this and the day is here!! The winner of the oversized Torch pin is…
Bill V!

And ’cause you already know I can’t give out only one pin… I have a few other winners as well…
Mihnea C – a Petro-Canada pin
Pam M – an Air Canada pin
Sarah P – a RBC pin
If you’re one of my winners email me at 2010vanfan@gmail.com to let me know if you’d like to come into the Olympic Superstore to pick up your pin in person or if you will need it mailed to you! Thanks to everyone who participated!!
And of course… that means I need a new pin contest! And it just so happens that I think I have a pin that people will want to get their hands on…
Since it’s the Mascots’ Birthday this Friday I have a Visa Mascot Pin to give away!!

A very adorable pin!
How do you win it? Get a friend to post a comment on my blog sometime between now and the evening of Sunday, November 29th (that gives you a week!). In their comment they will need include your name and answer the following question:
What are the names of the Mascots from the Montreal 1976 and the Calgary 1988 Olympics?
If you would like more than one entry to win this pin then make sure to tell more than one friend about 2010vanfan.ca!!
And don’t forget to enter your friend’s name too!

It’s late again so this is a short one, mostly focussing on the pin contests, however, if you find yourself in downtown Vancouver tomorrow be sure to stop by Robson Square and check out the GE Ice Plaza! The Ice Plaza will officially open at 9:30am, Monday, November 23rd! There will be free skating, skate and helmet rentals ($3 each and free for children under 12 years of age), and apparently entertainment! I plan on hanging around for a lot of the day and will certainly be there at 9:30am, so if you see me say hello! It’s lovely to meet others as excited about Vancouver 2010 as I am!!

Oh noooooooo! I can’t come on Saturday for the Mascots’ birthday because I have my Venue training at the Olympic Village. I would loved to have been there and especially now that I know Gaetan Boucher is making an appearance. Please take a photo if you can. Thanks.
Montreal ’76 – Amik (a beaver)
Calgary ’88 – Hidy and Howdy (polar bears)
My favorite mascot of all time though has to be Cobi from the ’92 Summer Olympics!
Michelle M’s favorite mascots are Vancouver’s 2010 mascots but Hidi and Howdy the polar bears from Calgary ’88 are a close second. The mascot from Montreal ’76 was Amik the beaver.
I would like to enter the contest for my husband (Mihnea C). He talks about his pins everyday…He doesn’t know that I am entering the contest for him so it would be a big surprise if I win.
The answer to the question is:
Hidi and Howdy – 1988 – Calgary Winter Games
Amik – 1976 – Montreal Summer Games
Thank you.
“The Mascot for the1976 Montreal Summer Games was a beaver called Amik, a name taken from the Algonquian language, which is the most popular language amongst the Native Indians in Canada. Amik means beaver & the beaver symbolizes hard work.
The Mascots for the 1988 Calgary Winter Games were sibling Polar Bears “Hidy and Howdy”.
They were the first dual mascots in the Olympic Games. The names express a feeling of brotherhood and welcome. “Hidy” is an extension of “hi”, while “Howdy”is the western slang for “hello”. These two mascots thus embody the warmth of Canadian hospitality.
