190 days ’til the Opening Ceremony – The Olympic Torch Route

2009 August 5

The Olympic Torch Rout is a long one!! The longest ever held in a single country! Pretty exciting for us!

Here’s what www.vancouver2010.com has to say.

“The Olympic Flame will travel more than 45,000 kilometres across Canada — some by land, air and water; and some by other means. During its journey towards Vancouver, the Olympic Flame will pass by some of the most pristine and stunning landscapes in the world. And at each turn and twist in the path to the Olympic Games, excited Canadians and visitors will gather to share in the experience. It is here, at the heart of Canadian communities, that our nation will celebrate the 2010 Olympic Winter Games with glowing hearts.”

“The national relay route will link together over 1,000 communities and places of interest. In order to share the experience with as many Canadians as possible, and to include as many communities as possible, the Olympic Flame will be carried by torchbearers in the more populous centres and transported between communities.”

The Olympic Flame is going to pass through a large number of communities. If you are interested in the opportunity to be an Olympic Torchbearer you can still apply at iCoke before August 17th (hurry!). If you remember RBC having a contest, they did, but unfortunately it closed in July.

While many of the Torchbearers will be regular Canadians like you and me, I’m sure we’ll also see some of our wonderful Canadian athletes, like Catriona Le May Doan or Rick Hansen carrying the Flame. I’m looking forward to see who all will be involved. Will it be you?

Is it possible to buy the red olympic mittens someplace in Manitoba? We travel to Winnipeg and Brandon and see that they say route sponsors for the torch run should be selling the mittens.

Hi Ken! Thanks for your question. As far as I know you should be able to get the Olympic Red Mittens at all Bay or Zellers locations. Particularly in Winnipeg or Brandon. Your other option is to get them online at HBC’s online site, find it here http://bit.ly/5YYfe. They also have a child’s size.
Thanks again! And if you have a chance, check out http://bit.ly/5YYfe for a contest to win an Air Canada pin, or better yet, a contest to win a Pin Album!!

        Hi Urbain,

I think your best bet would be to try online at http://store.hbc.ca. They seem to have some available right now and you could have them delivered to your home. Hope that helps!

        Cheers,
        Andrea
